Lee's Marketplace, Logan, Utah, used more than a ton of fresh grapes in an award-winning display contest sponsored by C.H. Robinson Worldwide to highlight Welch's fresh grapes. |
The produce manager at Lee’s Marketplace, an Associated Food Stores retailer in Logan, Utah, had some fun in the sun courtesy of Eden Prairie-based third-party logistics company C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc.
Lee’s was awarded the grand prize in C.H. Robinson’s first Hawaii vacation give-away display contest, according to a news release from C.H. Robinson. Lee’s used more than 2,000 pounds of Welch’s fresh grapes to create a 19-foot by 11-foot display that used the contrast of red and green grapes to spell out “Welch’s: Since 1869.”
The grand prize included a $3,000 travel voucher and $1,000 Visa gift card.
“We all enjoyed the exciting atmosphere of having the display in our store,” Jarom Bernhardt, produce manager of Lee’s Marketplace, said in the release.
Bernhardt and his wife already have taken their trip.
“Our goal was to get grapes into every cart that came through the door,” Bernhardt said in the release. “It was fun to see our guests stop as they came through the front doors, take pictures with their camera phones, and stock up on grapes.”
More than 15 retailers participated in the contest that ran for two weeks in August. The displays were judged by C.H. Robinson’s Phoenix branch.
“This was an extremely tough decision,” Kim Smith, Southwest regional sales manager, said in the release. “We were very impressed with everyone’s creativity and a lot of thought and effort went into them. This was a lot of fun to judge.”
Four other retailers were recognized for their displays. Winegar’s Roy, Macey’s Providence, Macey’s Pleasant Grove and Winegar’s Clearfield, all in Utah, received first through fourth places respectively.
